It’s that time of year again!
If you haven’t been around for a Telethon before, welcome to our once-a-year fundraising event! WRUW is a volunteer-run, non-commercial, non-profit college radio station that’s on the air 24/7/365. In my opinion, it’s the best college radio station around. And I don’t just say that because we have a full programming schedule each week to saturate the airwaves with great (and sometimes weird (in a good way)) tunes. One of my favorite things about WRUW, and also one of the things that makes us special, is how involved the station is in the Cleveland music scene. With live bands performing weekly on Live from Cleveland (Thursday nights @10pm), the free broadcasting of so many local concerts (Summer solstice, the Blues Cruise, City Stages, and so on), and our very own Studio-A-Rama (the free, all-day concert series that WRUW hosts on the CWRU campus in the fall), there’s no place quite like WRUW.
The money that we receive from donors during Telethon accounts for up to, and sometimes more than, 2/3rds of our annual budget. It’s the money that allows us to acquire new music for our catalogue, archive our on-air shows so that you can listen to them online, continue to do our live broadcasting of concerts, put on Studio-A-Rama, and most recently, allow us to finally have saved enough for a new transmitter! Telethon donations from our listeners are what make it possible for us to grow, improve, and take steps into our future as a station.
If you’re interested in donating, take a look at the premiums we offer as a thank-you for your support. Telethon is also the only time of the year that you can get your hands on WRUW merch (we don’t have a store), so if you’ve ever wanted to rock our logo, now’s the time! If you aren’t interested in any premiums, please consider donating to our endowment to help guarantee the future financial security of the station — we’re getting really close to having enough officially start our endowment fund!
Happy Telethon!
p.s. Thanks for stopping by! As a token of my gratitude, here’s a photo of my little old-man dog (he’s about to turn 13)
